Public Appeal & Press Release

Urgent help NEEDED NOW for millions of Burmese Cyclone Victims

[The Courier predicted on 7/5/08 that it may up to 200,000 deaths and millions homeless people in Burma]

Established in 1985 by Sakyamuni Buddhist Centre, a national peak, socially-engaged Dhamma group, AUSTRALIAN BUDDHIST RELIEF (ABR) has in the past 24 years been raising over one million dollars then distributing to tens, if not hundreds, of thousands people around the world, including Indochinese refugees in SE Asia then their resettlements to Australia during the 80s and 90s, thousands of natural disasters’ victims in India, Turkey, PNG, Caribbean America, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Vietnam, where we particularly help to relieving enormous physical/economic suffering of hundreds of thousands of hungers, sickness, prisoners,  oppressed and eye-impaired poor farmers, so on.

We NOW send this URGENT appeal to our supporters, in Australia and world-wide, to made their own way helping millions of Burma cyclone victims, either via a local international-NGO (AUSTCARE via 1300 66 66 72 & https://www.austcare.org.au/donatenow/appeals/myanmar.aspx , or other good-named NGOs. But common sense tells us that wherever possible, we distribute our relief thru its local Sangha networks.

In case of Burma this time, may I suggest you try to send your personal/group gift, using your local Western Union services to one of the well-known Sangha (monks) living in Yangon/Burma.

May I introduce my senior colleague, known to me for the last 4-5 years thru a series of international Buddhist conferences, the famous and respectable Burmese monk namely Most Venerable Ashin Nyanissara Sayadaw [you Google his profile or check his works at http://www.dhammaweb.net/nyanissara.html].  He is Chancellor of the well-known Sitagu International Buddhist Academy [http://www.sitagu.org/burma/ located at Thegon Sayadaw, Sitagu Vihra, Sagaing Hills, Sagaing City, Union of Myanmar, Phone - +95-72-21270] and also the  Founding Director of the charitable hospital, named Sitagu Ayudna Hospital [Phone - +95-72-21310, Fax - +95-72-21587].

He was just spending 2 weeks for Dhamma teachings in Australia, having visited us at the Sakyamuni Buddhist Centre Canberra on 28-29/4 and just left Sydney for Myanmar on 7/5/08. You now can access him directly via mobile +95-9-519 9991 or his email sitagu01@mandalay.net.mm. Our Canberra Van Hanh Sangha has initially donated $500 to his relief works, directly to him prior to his departure back to Yangon.

If you, Australians only please, seriously prefer to send thru my Australian Buddhist Relief (ABR), please made your direct deposit / internet transfer to ABR, Commonwealth Bank, BSB 062904, A/c 1004-7440. We may cease to receiving your gift on 30/6/2008, for publicizing the collections and reporting its transfers to Myanmar thru public media and some community language newspapers. We may also send detailed report for publicity on  www.quangduc.com and other friendly Buddhist websites.

All generous donors please email me at quangba@tpg.com.au, or mail to PO box 1004 Dickson ACT 2602 your (also for your cheque /money order to be mailed) correct evidence of your deposit / transfer, then ABR official Receipt can be issued. Cash can be drop at our Canberra Monastery, address as above, or at our Sydney branch Monastery at 155 The Boulevarde, Fairfield Heights NSW 2165.

By the meanwhile, please join us in Canberra to pray for 100,000+ dead, on Sun 18.5.08, 10am.

May the Triple Gems bless you and all family members for an ever happy and peaceful life.

Yours in the Dhamma.

Thich Quang Ba going to Burma for distributing Oz Buddhists relief funds, 27/5-2/6/2008, assisted by Den. Dr Sayadaw Nyanissara

Dear respected Sangha Brothers / Sisters

my dear Dhamma friends

I am leaving 10am tomorrow 27/5 for a week to Yangon, hopefully following Most venerable Nyanissara daily trips to Irrawaddhi for distributing relief funds (what/how/where as he sees fit) that we have collected from last 2 weeks here in 1- Canberra Van Hanh monastery, 2- my Sydney Nguyen Thieu monastery in Fairfield Heights, 3- from unnanimous donations to my Australian Buddhist Relief (Commonwealth Bank BSB 06-2904, a/c 1004-7440) and 4- some donors who met me in Melbourne over last weekend when I was there for Vesak celebrations in several Temples.

I pray that I can do few very small things for deepening Sangha relations, enhancing Buddhist mutual assistance between Australia and Burma, and help to relieving little physical suffering of few hundreds/thousand cyclone victims waiting there in Myanmar.

I hope that you respected Sangha and dear Dhamma friends will keep raising fund and dent directly to Sayadaw supporting his great works (please see http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=sitagu+&search_type and http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=sitagu and http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=nyanissara+&search_type= )

It is harder for anyone out of Sayadaw to be freely allowed helping Myanmar victims of cyclone. UN General Secretary had just to convince Generals there to allow international aids coming to the country but with lots of restrictions (i.e. not religious conversions, etc.) ; therefore AUSCARE, Aust. Red Cross, World Vision may slowly be allowed to Burma, but not necessary performing as the ways they like. I suggest we better encourage our Buddhist community exercising our compassionate actions wherever possible thru our Buddhist networks, rather than thru others.

I will keep you contacted and informed during the week I am there, if conditions allowed .

Yours truly

Most Venerable Thich Quang Ba
